Knut official decries raw deal on hiring

Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) officials in Uasin Gishu County have faulted the planned recruitment of 10,000 teachers, saying the number is insufficient to address the current shortage.

Eldoret East Knut Executive Secretary Sammy Bor said the Government will be actually employing half the 10,000 figure as 5,000 of the said new employees will be filling the gap left by retired, deceased and sacked teachers.

"The teaching fraternity has gotten a raw deal from the Government. That number is far much below to address the huge shortage experienced in the learning sector," said Bor.
