Police arrest man found slaughtering a dog in Naivasha

NAIVASHA, KENYA: There are fears that some residents of Naivasha town could be feeding on dog meat after a middle aged man was found slaughtering the domesticated animal.

Traffic officers manning the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu road nabbed the suspect in the act a few kilometers from Naivasha town after a tip-off from members of the public.

During the incident, police managed to recover several rolls of bhang, a knife, a skinned leg of the dog as officers from the public health moved in to arrest the suspect.

Tens of members of the public and motorists milled at the scene where the donkey had been partially skinned to witness the bizarre incident.

To the shock of the onlookers, the suspect admitted that he had been eating dog meat terming it as a delicacy.

The suspect identified as Antony Nuthu said that he could not stand back and watch as the dog went to waste.

"I do eat dog meat and this is not the first time and I do not understand what the fuse is all about," said the unshaken suspect.

A motorcycle operator Peter Mwaura admitted that cases of meat hawking was on the increase in some estates in the area.

He expressed his concern over the quality and source of samosa that the residents were feeding on and called for thorough investigations into incident.
