Basketball league: Congo Nets top Coast League

Congo Nets of Mombasa are perched at the summit as the Mombasa region basketball league entered into homestretch at the weekend at the High Level grounds.

Nets needed half basket to stop Buxton Hawks 65-64 at the weekend. However, the league leaders had their good run checked after they lost 61-52 to Coastal Kings in another match.

Defending champions Malindi Nets were beaten 55-39 by Buxton Hawks before they recovered to beat Mtopanga Finest 37-22.

In other matches, Wundanyi Stingers beat Kaya Tiwi Secondary School 56-38, while Bravehearts clobbered Maweni Hornets 70-41.

Former champions Kiembeni Heats were stunned by Kisauni Kings who beat them 55-50 as Makupa Lakers fell 49-42 to Changamwe Rollers. Oceanears needed half basket to beat Gorofani Raptors 57-56, Mombasa Aviation stopped Kaya Tiwi 49-46, while Buxton Hawks registered their second weekend win when they defeated Tumaini Takers 56-48.

Mjetts edged Wundanyi Stingers 50-45, Buxton Hawks hit Mtopanga Finest 72-55, Changamwe Rollers silenced Oceanears 82-50 while Mombasa Aviation recovered to beat Bravehearts 55-31. Tumaini Takers upset Kiembeni Heats 68-63, Coastal Kings hit Gorofani Raptors 70-29, Kisauni Kings hit Makupa Lakers 56-38, Mjetts lost 35-38 to Maweni Hornets. [email protected]
