Ministry to issue one million title deeds, says Charity Ngilu

UASIN GISHU: Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu has revealed that her ministry is aiming to issue one million title deeds to Kenyans by December.

Mrs Ngilu said she was obligated to achieve the ministry’s targets clearly defined by both President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.

She said the duo were keenly following the developments in her ministry because most of its affairs were part of the Jubilee government’s manifesto. The Cabinet Secretary said the overall target was to issue at least three million titles in three years.

Ngilu was speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of Eldoret town infrastructure.

The works to be carried out in Munyaka, Mwenderi, Kamukunji and Huruma estates include roads/footpath and drainage, flood lighting and sanitation.

Ngilu urged slum dwellers with letters of allotment to present them to the county government for verification and thereafter to the ministry for title deeds.

“We are aware of the challenges posed by lack of titles. It makes it hard to develop land because of uncertainties,” she noted.

She also took a swipe at the National Land Commission for overstepping its mandate.
