Nairobi, Kenya:
A gang attacked a woman and sliced her earlobe as they robbed her of her cash and valuables in Buruburu area, Nairobi.

The woman identified as Lilian Mwangi, 23, was walking home at Mutindwa area when she was accosted by three men armed with knives on Monday night.

Police say the same gang has been attacking and mugging pedestrians in the area robbing them of cash and valuables.

They escaped leaving the woman bleeding at the scene and efforts to trace them are ongoing.

The gang sliced her earlobe halfway from the top and left it dangling and bleeding profusely in the bizarre crime as they struggled with her. She was rushed to hospital where she was attended to and discharged.

Buruburu OCPD Charles Kerich said they are pursuing several leads on the whereabouts of the attackers.

"They dissected the woman's ears as they struggled to steal her valuables and cash. They escaped with her purse that had the valuables but we are looking for them," said Kerich.

Kerich termed the incident as bizarre and barbaric arguing they had never registered a similar one in the past.

“We usually have mugging incidents and at times victims suffer serious bruises but not like the one of Monday where the attackers wanted to chop off an earlobe. Mugging is equally traumatising.”

Cases of armed robberies are on the rise in Nairobi leaving police struggling to contain them.

Apart from the armed and violent robberies, police are unable to solve rising cases of housebreaking where thugs steal electronic goods.
