Nakuru, Kenya: Police in Nakuru arrested 150 people on a Saturday night in a swoop that targeted popular night clubs. The operation targeted popular nightspots as revellers jammed the town for the Great Rift 10-aside rugby tournament.

Traffic police officers and National Traffic Safety Agency (NTSA) officials lay traps for drunk drivers on Oginga Odinga Street and Kenyatta Avenue.

Drivers who were found to have drunk beyond the 0.35 limit were arrested and booked at the Nakuru Central police station. Their cars were also towed to the police station.

“I was just coming from a club and I know I am positive. Why are you arresting senior citizens like me?” said one driver who could barely walk due to his drunken stupor.

At Kenyatta Avenue, one driver who had earlier been arrested managed to escape into the dark streets leaving officers high and dry. His vehicle had earlier been towed to the police station.

Some also vented their anger toward journalists who were following keenly the operation, forcing the officers to intervene and whisk them away.

“You journalists are bad people. Don’t you have something better to do? Why are you interested in Alcoblow while people are dying daily elsewhere?” said one angry lady.
