Favourites eliminated: Hockey title holders Sinyolo and in-form Kamusinga beaten in semi-final

Defending hockey champions Sinyolo Girls of Lake region and favourites Friends School Kamusinga of Nzoia wept after they were bundled out of the Brookeside National Secondary Schools First Term games, which comes to an end today at Shimo La Tewa High.

Sinyolo Girls hockey team were upset 2-0 by Kapkolei in a tough semi-final tie at Shanzu Teachers Training College.

Kamusinga fell to Mangu Boys of Aberdare in one of the semis at Shimo La Tewa High.

Another upset was in girls basketball semi-final when Parklands Arya of Metropolitan upset 2011 champions Tigoi of Nzoia region 71-66 in a nail-biting semi-final.

The match remained deadlocked 14-14, 55-55 before the final whistle. The two teams went for five minutes overtime play where Parklands coached by Godffrey Mwaloma unleashed their winning weapon to win the match 71-66.

Bigger margin

The other girls basketball semi-final saw defending champions Shimba Hills High of Mombasa region outclassed by Loreto Limuru of Aberdare 110-21 after leading 65-6 at half time.

Girls’ hockey saw Kapkolei coached by Moses Koech beat Sinyolo 2-0 with Ascar Cherop scoring in the 45th minute and Vivian Chebet hammered the last nail in the 60th minute.

In the other girls’ hockey semi-final, St John’s Kaloleni of Mombasa made it to the final after beating St Joseph Kibwezi 2-0. Coached by Austin Otieno, St John’s Kaloleni scored through Florence Mwaka and Veronica Willium.

In boys’ hockey, Narok of Nakuru coached by Joseph Kenga beat Maseno of Lake 1-0 with with Ratia Samson scoring.

Title holders

At the other semi-final, title holders Kamusinga clobbered Thomas Fish of Metropolitan 3-0 after a scoreless draw of first half. Allan Kipkemoi, Owen Odado and Derrick Kuloba scored a goal each for the winners.

Boy’s basketball, defending champions Upper Hill of Metropolitan region made it to the final after dismissing St Georges of Mombasa region 82-46. Ater Ijiah and Fred Malaki slammed 15 and 14 points respectively while Henry Bosco and Gordon Oyara had 18 and 15 each.

In the other boys semi-final, Mangu High of Abardare upset pre match favourites Kamusinga outclassing them 57-50 in a closely battled match. Charles Omula scored 16 for Mangu while Teddy Omondi bagged 14 for Kamusinga.

And in rugby, Maseno scored three tries and one conversion to edge out Menengai 17-0 to scrum their way to the final. Anthony Odhiambo had two tries and Tony Kademy scored a try and converted to take the score to 17-0.

The other semi-final clash saw favourites St Peters Mumias beat Kangaru of Northern region.
