San Jose, California: A baby has died after being left inside a car while outside temperatures reached more than 70F.

The nine-month-old boy’s father allegedly forgot to leave him with a childminder before parking his car and driving off in a van he reportedly used for work.

When he returned to the quiet residential street 10 hours later – at about 7pm – he found his son unconscious and called the police.

Neighbour Kevin Carroll said he walked past the SUV three times but did not notice the baby.

He said he heard a firefighter at the SUV say: “The baby is dead.”

Police are investigating the incident in San Jose, California, on Wednesday where temperatures reached 75F (23C). The family has not been named.
