Kilifi, KENYA: Dairy farmers in Kilifi County are set to get ready market for their produce after the county government announced plans to revive the collapsed Mariakani Milk Plant.

Speaking to The Standard, executive committee member in charge of agriculture livestock, veterinary and fisheries development, Mwalimu Menza, said the government has set aside Sh10 million to revive the collapsed plant.

He said repair works will commence soon, adding that the plant should be ready for operations by mid this year.

“The county government is committed to reviving the once vibrant Mariakani Milk plant, which was run down many  years ago due to mismanagement,” he said.

Menza said the county has plenty of arable land that is ideal for dairy farming. He identified parts of Ganze, Magarini, Malindi, Kaloleni and Rabai, and urged farmers to invest in the sector.

Menza said the county government has also set aside funds to revive at least two cattle dips in each constituency for improved livestock health.
