First Lady Margaret Kenyatta begins training in London ahead of marathon

London, United Kingdom: First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, who arrived in London Tuesday morning, began her training in earnest to acclimatise with the local weather conditions.

The First Lady, who is also celebrated her 50th birthday Tuesday, trained for one hour in the afternoon at the Kensington Gardens at the Royal Parks in London.

Later, the First Lady hosted a private cocktail party attended mostly by her team members at the Chelsea Harbour Hotel, London to celebrate her birthday.

Former First Lady, who is also her mother in-law Mama Ngina Kenyatta, attended the cocktail party.

Most of the elite Kenyan athletes have arrived in London and began their training too to acclimasize.

The athletes who have arrived in London include Wilson Kipsang who won the London Marathon in 2012, Wilson Kipsang Mutai, the 2011 and 2012 world marathon champion Geoffrey Kiprono Mutai, 2012 Paris Marathon winner, Stanley Kipleting Biwott and a former world 10,000m bronze medalist Martin Irungu Mathathi.

Kenyan elite women athletes participating in the race include, 2012 and 2013 London Marathon champion Priscah Jeptoo, this years’ Barcelona world half Marathon winner Florence Jebet Kiplagat and last year’s best marathoner award winner Edna Kiplagat.
