Struggling to sleep? Have sex!

Health & Science
One in six people says having sex helps them to sleep for longer and deeper

One in six people say that having sex helps them to improve how well they sleep at night.

Having sex before bed helps one in six people to sleep deeper and longer, a survey has found.

With the average amount of time people spend getting shut-eye diminishing, getting frisky between the sheets is the preferred way to make the most of sleep time for 17 per cent of people.

Failing that, reading can help as many as 55 per cent of us according to Sanctuary Spa.

The average person in the UK now gets just six hours and 40 minutes, which is an hour and 20 minutes shorter than doctors recommend, meaning we are awake for the equivalent of three weeks longer than doctors recommend every year.

Perhaps it is obvious, but the best nights for sleep are on a Friday and Saturday night when we can look forward to a lie in.

Nichola Joss, Sanctuary Spa skincare expert and celebrity facialist said: "A good night’s sleep can undoubtedly be difficult to come by. It’s important to prepare the mind and body for sleep with a calming pre-bed routine. Ban technology for an hour before and have a warm candlelit bath to relax your body, muscles and mind.

"It’s essential that women get a minimum of eight hours sleep a night to allow skin to rejuvenate and repair overnight. Much of the body’s regenerative work, like protein building, happens during sleep, so without a good amount of sleep skin will begin to age prematurely and lose radiance.

"Fragrance can be a powerful factor in helping you drift off to sleep, so light a scented candle such as the new Sanctuary Spa Daydream Candle which has essential oils of ylang ylang, frankincense and patchouli which will help create a calming and peaceful atmosphere and encourage a restful sleep.”
