Pwani University closed indefinitely

Mombasa, Kenya: Pwani University has been closed indefinitely after the Kenya Union of Domestic, Health Educational Institutions, Hotel and Allied workers (Kudheiha) joined the lecturers and the university staff strike.

Led by the union shop-stewards Pwani chapter, Sheth Ochanda said the lecturers vowed not to resume work until their demands are met.

Earlier learning at the University had been disrupted after the lecturers and staff downed their tools to force university authorities to release their unpaid salaries and house allowance increments.

The lectures led by their Universities Academic Staff Union (Uasu) chairman Pwani university chapter, Chris Ngenyi, the chairman Kenya Universities Staff Union (Kusu) Rumba Mwachiramba  Pwani  university  chapter and the organising secretary of the University Students Association, Clifford Kipchumba called for the release of their cash being withheld by university administrations.

Mr Ngenyi said they had no problem with the Government because it honoured their collective bargaining agreement signed three years ago, but the administrations of the universities including that of Pwani University for withholding their money.
