Nairobi, Kenya: Two Nigerians were Wednesday morning arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi over suspicion of being drug traffickers.

The two, a man and a woman were headed for Cameroon when they were intercepted at the airport.

They had inserted pellets of cocaine in their anal system when they were arrested.

Police said they have so far emitted 15 pellets after being put in an observation room.

They originated from Sao Paolo in Brazil, connected to Ethiopia and later JKIA and were to leave for Cameroon.

Head of Airport CID Joseph Ngisa said they will appear in court as soon as they finish emitting the pellets.

“We are waiting for them to finish emitting the pellets before we weigh the drugs and later take them to court,” said Ngisa

The arrest is the latest in a sting that is aimed at stopping the usage of JKIA as a transit point.

On October 29, a Ghanaian national was arrested and more than 500 grams of cocaine valued at Sh2.1 million recovered from him at the airport.

The man was headed for Accra, Ghana after originating Sao Paolo, Brazil, officials said.

Earlier in October, another Ghanaian national was arrested at the airport over drug trafficking charges of cocaine valued at more than Sh4 million.

The man aged 34 was enroute to Benin from Sao Paulo when he was detained by officials from the Anti-Narcotics Unit.

He was put in an observation room and emitted at least 48 pellets he had inserted into his rectum.

Last week, two people who include a Kenyan who is wanted in German over drug trafficking charges and a Canadian national were arrested while trying to traffic a kilo of heroin valued at Sh2.4 million.

The two were headed for Mauritius when they were intercepted by detectives at the airport.
