Kirinyaga, Kenya: The National Campaign Against Drug Abuse (Nacada) has ordered for immediate closure of a liquor outlet in Kirinyaga County which allegedly sold alcohol to four school girls over the weekend.

Through its Board chairman John Mututho, Nacada also ordered for the arrest and prosecution of the proprietor of the wholesale and retail Wines and Spirits business situated at Kianyaga market.

An infuriated Mututho rushed to the market on Monday afternoon upon learning that the proprietor of the business sold spirits to the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education candidates in total contravention of alcohol rule.

The teenage students from a girls’ school in Kirinyaga East District had been given time off by the school administration to go home and bring with them their examination materials.

“But on reaching the market, the students in school uniform headed straight to the pub and bought alcohol and to our amazement, they started drinking,” said Miriam Wambui, a shop keeper.

The witness said she alerted other women and they all agreed to call the school principal who arrived immediately.
