Airtel Money customers to pay lowest call rates

By STANDARD REPORTER

Mobile customers who use Airtel Money are set to pay the lowest call rates in the country following the introduction of a new tariff that allows subscribers to pay a two-shilling flat rate per minute for calls across all networks.

Subscribers will have to transact at least Sh100 on the Airtel Money transfer platform by paying bills, sending or receiving money, making withdrawals or purchasing airtime to qualify for the service, which the company says is the lowest tariff in the country.

“We don’t charge for transactions on Airtel Money. If customers transact free of charge on this platform and are also able to make calls across all networks for two shillings, it is great value addition.

“Actually, it’s close to making calls for free if you factor in both ends of the deal,” said Airtel Kenya’s Head of PR and Communications Dick Omondi.

Airtime usage

The offer, which is half the normal calling rate in the market, will, however, be available only to pre-paid customers.

It offers subscribers a way to save on airtime usage as the cost of living continues to increase, with basic commodity prices increasing across the board.

The call rate is viable for seven days on any activity of Sh100 or more on a subscriber’s Airtel Money account.

Three months ago, the company unveiled an integrated bundle service that allows customers to enjoy competitive rates on voice calls, data and SMS services.

Voice calls

The service christened Airtel Tosha allows customers to choose bundles that fit their individual needs for voice calls, SMS and data services at fixed daily subscription rates.

Thus, customers are more in control of how much they spend on their communication needs while enjoying 20 times more value for the cost.

Customers have different communication needs that may vary by the day and the product offers them freedom to choose their own tailor-made bundle to maximise their communication needs.

“When customers subscribe to the Sh30 bundle they enjoy 140 minutes for calls within the network, 10 minutes to other networks, unlimited SMS and 100 megabytes data thus reflecting the immense value being offered to the customers with the bundles,” Omondi explained in an interview.
