MPs from upper North Rift region are leading a joint front to end perennial cattle rustling that has led to loss of lives and property.

The 12 legislators drawn from Baringo, Turkana and West Pokot Counties launched a three-day tour of insecurity hotspots.

They MPs want to sensitise their communities and seek a permanent solution to the decades long problem.  Tiaty MP Asman Kamama and Parliamentary Committee on Security chairman, said all parliamentarians have resolved to work as a team in the peace initiative to facilitate development.

Mr Kamama, said insecurity and cattle rustling have for years, remained a challenge and are frustrating development in the region.

“As elected leaders, we come together as ambassadors of peace and speak to our people. We are under a new dispensation and insecurity must be brought to an end,” he said.

The MP said the team has already toured hotspots in Kabedo and Lochakula areas in Turkana East and yesterday they were targeting to visit Lorengipi in Loima District Turkana and Kacheliba in West Pokot.

Kamama added that a major meeting would be held today (Saturday) in Turkwel where President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto are expected.

The leaders spoke yesterday at the Eldoret Airstrip before boarding a police Helicopter for the meeting at Lorengipi.
