Nyahururu, Kenya: Police in Nyahururu town on Friday intercepted three school buses that were carrying excess students.

A total of 55 students were in excess in the three school buses which were heading to Nakuru on an educational tour.

In a crackdown led by Nyandarua OCPD Benjamin Onsongo, the buses were intercepted along Nyahururu-Nakuru road where it was also discovered that they were defective.

The student’s education tour was cut short as they spent the better part of the day at Nyahururu Police Station.

According to Onsongo, the drivers of the buses and the school administration would be charged in court.

“We cannot subject the lives of innocent children to danger as this is total disregard of the law. We have to adhere to the traffic rules as it has been directed by the President,” he noted.

He warned that tough action would be taken against those failing to abide by the traffic rules.

“We have put our officers along the major roads to crack down on traffic offenders. This is to end the rising cases of road accidents,” he added.

The crackdown on school buses comes barely two days after an accident in Kisii crash.

Onsongo warned that the crackdown would be extended all over Nyandarua county.
