Thugs rob passengers along Ngong road

NAIROBI, KENYA: Armed thugs carjacked a bus headed to Satelite estate, Nairobi and robbed passengers of their valuables.

The bus was taken hostage along Ngong Road in Dagoreti area on Tuesday night by six men posing as passengers.

They diverted into a forest near Kibera slums where they robbed passengers of cash and other valuables.

Police said the gang, which was armed with pistols, abandoned the bus in the area and escaped.

Nairobi police boss Benson Kibui said they are looking for a tout of the matatu who alighted before the attack.

“Many passengers were terrified and we are focusing on crucial leads that can help us know these thugs,” he said.

The attack came a day after a similar incident happened along Jogoo Road on Monday on a bus that was headed for Komarock estate, Nairobi.

A gang of seven took control of the bus as it raced from the city centre and robbed passengers of their valuables.

The bus was hijacked and taken to Kaloleni estate where the gang robbed valuables from the passengers and abandoned them in a dark alley.

The incident happened even after police and matatu operators agreed to put in place measures to address such incidences.

The operators and police met in the city last month and agreed to ensure they screen all passengers who board their vehicles.
