Man shot dead after sneaking into Moi Airbase in Eastleigh

NAIROBI, KENYA: A man who scaled a wall into the Moi Airbase Eastleigh, Nairobi was shot dead in the military facility.

Police said the unidentified man had jumped over the perimeter wall and was walking through the premise when an alarm was raised on Sunday night.

Nairobi police boss Benson Kibui said the man defied orders to surrender prompting the military personnel to shoot him.

“We do not know what his motive was but he was shot by army officers there after he refused to stop,” said Kibui.

The base is a protected zone and trespassing is prohibited especially this time of terrorism. Major military facilities are under guard over fears of terror attacks.

Police were later called and picked up the body to the mortuary.

Meanwhile, three suspected thugs were Sunday night shot dead by police in separate incidents and weapons recovered from them in Nairobi.

Police say the victims refused to surrender when they were challenged.

Two of the victims were killed in Shauri Moyo area during a mugging spree and knives recovered from them.

Another suspect was killed in Wakulima Market area near Muthurwa in a robbery incident.

The suspect had snatched a bag from a woman and was escaping when an alarm was raised.

Two other pedestrians were hit by stray bullets in the leg and hand respectively and are admitted in hospital in a stable condition.
