Why Kalonzo should go ‘look after goats’ for now

 By  Njoroge Kinuthia

Nairobi, Kenya; In 2002, around the same time Imenti sage Kiraitu Murungi was giving unsolicited advice to then outgoing President Moi, “to go and look after goats and watch how a proper government is run”, a cartoonist caricatured Moi in retirement under a tree with a gourd of milk “chilling”.
I don’t know what Moi has been up to in his retirement, but  wouldn’t hesitate to give the same advice to ex-VP Kalonzo Musyoka. Why, because the makers of our cherished Constitution never had the kind of shenanigans that are going on in mind.
The Constitution does not provide for anyone to sacrifice their ambitions for other(s), in case they are not elected for positions they seek. Thankfully, ex-PM Odinga has spurned efforts to make him an MP.
Truth is, it isn’t right for the taxpayer to made to pay for a by-election, in case some less ambitious fellow steps down, in a bid to take Kalonzo to Parliament.
The ex-VP should simply respect the will of the people and play ball from the sidelines for the next five years or, alternatively, go “herd goats in Tseikuru”. But if CORD manages to force a by-election, it would only be fair that it funds the poll.
