MALINDI, KENYA: There was shock, disbelief and anger among the residents of a remote village in Malindi District, Kilifi County after a man butchered his five-year-old son and feasted on some of the internal organs.

The strange event occurred at Lango Baya village early on New Year’s Day. After committing the act, the man removed his son’s heart, liver and private parts, which he wrapped in a polythene paper bag and stored inside his house.

The man later drunk his blood before wrapping his body in a white cloth and dumped it in a shallow pit about 400 metres from his house.

Apparently the man was living with his son alone after chasing away his wife a few days before the macabre event.

Neighbours who learnt of the incident following a commotion, raised alarm attracting members of public who descended on the man baying for his blood, but he was rescued by the quick intervention of Administration Police officers who rushed to the scene.

The officers retrieved the body from the shallow grave and upon searching the suspect’s house recovered the missing body parts.

After being rescued from the mob the man claimed to have been asked by his pastor to kill his son and remove the body parts and surrender them to the latter in order to be made rich.

It is alleged that the man’s wife had left for her home a day before the incident after a family dispute leaving behind her son.

Hundreds villagers jammed the homestead to witness the incident.

Malindi District Criminal Investigation Department Officer John Ndung’u confirmed the incident. Ndung’u said they have arrested the suspect and that investigation was in top gear. The body was later taken to the Star Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The DCIO said the suspect would be arraigned in court today to answer to murder charges.

This follows a recent incident in Wendiga village in Mweiga town, Meru County where a man killed his wife, chopped off her head and ate her internal body organs.

The man then drank his wife’s blood before forcing his son to drink some of the blood. The incident angered  residents of Wendiga village who were up in arms against Morris Mutuma Mutegi who was said to be in his 20s.
