IEBC in search for campaign monitor specialists ahead of polls

About 47 jobs are up for grabs at Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The electoral body is looking for campaign specialists to monitor political parties’ internal nominations in the newly created 47 counties.

The specialists will coordinate training of political parties’ candidates and agents to ensure that no public officer is an official of a party and coordinate sensitisation of parties at the county level.

The persons must have three years experience, be Kenyan citizens, be competent in report writing and have analytical skills.

In what has become IEBC’s routine, applicants will apply online by visiting www.iebc.or.ke/careers.

Those interested in the positions have up to January 3 to file their applications with the commission.

Those applicants will be contracted for a three-month period and will earn Sh1,000 per day.

The commission recently announced completion of voter registration, which laid ground to next year’s General Election, the first under this Constitution.

The final tally from IEBC indicates that 14.3 million voters had registered when the exercise ended last Tuesday. IEBC chairman Issack Hassan confirmed to The Standard that their final figure missed the 18 million target by less than four million voters.

The commission resisted calls from a section of politicians and the civil society to extend the registration.

IEBC said they have tight timelines, which must be adhered to for it to deliver a credible poll on March 4, next year. The specialists are expected to streamline the way parties conduct their nominations. Most primaries are often riddled with rigging claims and chaos, that break out when rivals see they are losing.
