Businessman among thugs arrested in botched robbery

By Antony Gitonga

NAIVASHA, KENYA. There was drama in Naivasha when police accosted a group of thugs including a Nairobi businessman who were on a robbery mission.Gunshots rent the air as police managed to arrest three of the suspects including the trader while seven others managed to escape.

The suspects had traveled from Nairobi and were in the process of robbing a construction site when police move in.
It’s suspected that some of the suspects could have escaped with gun shot wounds following the discovery of a trial of blood.

According to Naivasha OCPD Charles Kortok, police had prior information of the pending robbery and raid a trap.
Kortok said that at around 3am, the group raided the store and started loading the construction material into a waiting lorry.

“It was then that our officers moved in and managed to arrest three suspects while the rest escaped on foot,” said the police boss.Kortok added that they managed to recover all the stolen materials and confiscated the lorry used to carry the loot.

He added that the three suspects who are in custody would be arraigned in court charged with various offences.
“We thank members of the public for the tip off and we have heightened our patrols in and around the town,” he said.

At the same time, the OCPD said that they were following some leads into a robbery incident last week where a trader lost over Sh3m.

Kortok noted that though no arrest had been made police had made progress in the robbery incident. “No arrest has been made yet but it’s a matter of time before we catch up with those involved in the incident,” he said.

Last week, armed robbers raided a BAT distribution shop and made away with the cash after beating up an attendant taking the cash to a bank.
