Biometric voter kits arrive

Biometric equipment that will be used in next year’s elections have arrived in the country, Justice Minister Eugene Wamalwa said.

“The biometric kits have already arrived. We expect the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to use the kits to register at least 18 million new voters,” Wamalwa announced.

The 15,000 kits he said were capable of registering 20 million people in 30 days thus he said there was no need of extension of the period.

“I urge both married women and youths without national identity cards in the region to apply for the cards as the Government had waived the fee charged on late registration,” he explained.

“I know some of our people and especially women do not have IDs due to marriage or one or two other problems. You should go and register yourself as minus the document you can’t be registered as a voter,” added Wamalwa.

The Justice Minister  spoke Monday at his Milimani residence in Kitale in the company of former Agriculture minister Kipruto Kirwa in a meeting meant to draw strategies a head of the General Election.

Kirwa urged the aspirants to popularize the party and shun selfish interests that will weaken the party.

Kirwa urged the aspirants to hold grass root meetings to popularize the party in a bid to retain and win more members into the party.
