A man killed his wife and attempted to take his life in Machakos County. The driver with the Kenya Revenue Authority in Nairobi is being held at the Machakos Police Station as investigation into the Friday incident got underway.
Machakos police chief Richard Kerich confirmed the incident and said the suspect will be charged with the murder of his wife as soon as investigation is complete.
Beaten wife
The man, 46, is said to have beaten his wife at their Kaani village home in Kathiani District for unknown reasons.
His 42-year-old wife Eunice Mbula succumbed to injuries as she was being rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital following the brutal attack. Her body was taken back to Machakos Level Five Hospital mortuary.
According to her sister-in-law, Ms Agnes, Mbula’s son informed her of the attack on his mother by their father.
“I found my brother-in-law knocking his wife’s head against the floor. She was bleeding profusely,” she told The Standard at the Machakos Police Station.
Agnes said she tried to free the woman from her enraged husband but she too was boxed and kicked hard, prompting her to scream for help.
“We rushed her to Machakos where she was referred to Kenyatta, but she passed on before Machakos road turn off junction,” said a tearful Agnes.
Ms Agnes reported that the man mockingly asked her what action she had taken over the Friday night incident.
The suspect locked himself up before hanging himself with a rope.
