Police officers on Friday exhumed the body of a five-year-old in Gatitu village, Mbeere South District.

The boy died after his mother allegedly forced him to go on a seven-day fasting.

Mbeere OCPD Eric Mugambi said police were granted orders by the High Court to exhume the body after the boy’s mother buried him two months ago without informing the police.

He said they are holding the woman and will do a post-mortem to establish the cause of death.
