The four professionals gracing this year’s Kenya International Polo tournament are expected to excite crowds with some swashbuckling play.
Selby Williamson from South Africa is a five-goal player who will be turning out for Veuve Clicquot alongside four-goal Casimir Gross, Tarquin Gross (2.5) and Devin Shretta (0.5).
He is a captain at Jurassic Park Polo Club in the Swartberg region.
Selby is a very versatile player who can attack from his preferred forward position but is also good in defence.
This year, Selby was coach for the 14-goal SA team that travelled to Malaysia to take part in the FIP 14-goal World Cup Playoffs and also played for South Africa against New Zealand in 2008, Canada in 2009 and Chile in the 2010 BMW Internationals.
Another South African professional, Rory Twort (4-goal), will be playing for CfC Stanbic, which will also feature Jamie Murray (4), Charlie Dyer (1.5) and Joss Craig (0). Twort plays for Crocodile Creek Polo Club in Johannesburg.
Playing history
He started playing polo at Karkloof in the Natal Midlands, South Africa, and then went to the US for 5 years, working for Tommy Wayman and managing Adam Snows green horse operation.
Santiago Schweitzer from Argentina (5-goal) will turn up for Lady Lori Helicopters alongside three-goal Craig Millar, two-goal Phillip Arungah and Raphael Nzomo (1).
The Argentinian is a regular player at the Kenyan International and lives in Opendoor. Santy, as he prefers to be called, is a cunning player on the pitch.
This comes from years of playing high and medium goal polo with some of the best teams in Argentina. Santy runs a family polo academy, where he teaches polo to players of all classes.
