Sumbeiywo passes on after battle with cancer

Former Presidential Escort Commander Elijah Sumbeiywo died Saturday after a battle with cancer.

A family friend said the former Keiyo North MP died of pancreas   cancer that he has been battling at a Nairobi hospital.

He was a brother to retired Army commander and Sudan peace mediator Lt General Lazarus Sumbeiywo.

He was the presidential escort commander under retired President Moi.

While serving as an MP for Keiyo North, he was appointed as an Assistant Minister, Office of the Vice President, Ministry of Planning and National Development and Agriculture and Rural Development.

Reported cases of cancer have been on the rise in the recent months.

East African Community Permanent Secretary David Nalo died last Thursday at Nairobi Hospital following a battle with cancer.

The PS had been admitted at the ICU for over a week suffering from cancer of the Lymphoma, a type of cancer involving cells of the immune system called lymphocytes.

Lymphoma represents about 35 different cancers of lymphocytes.

Head of civil service Francis Kimemia has led other PSs in mourning Mr Nalo. He described Nalo as hard working man who will be missed by many.
