Arsenal defender Andre Santos has been charged by police with dangerous driving and driving without due care and attention.

The 29-year-old was arrested last month just a couple of miles from the club's training ground.

The Brazilian was apprehended by officers who noticed a car - believed to be a Maserati GranTurismo - being allegedly driven at around 130mph by a driver who failed to stop.

He is due to appear before magistrates later this month, and could be jailed for up to two years if his case goes to Crown Court and he is convicted.

Santos, who is understood to own several expensive cars, joined the Gunners last year from Turkish side Fenerbahce.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman confirmed: ' Andre Santos, 29, of East Finchley, north London, has been charged with dangerous driving and driving without due care and attention on August 17th this year in Mill Hill, north west London.'
