A high school student is in critical condition after residents of Aloete village in Teso North attacked him over allegations he was involved in witchcraft.

The student of Ang’urai Deacons Secondary School was in a group of other men but the rest escaped.

He was cornered by mourners near the grave of Philip Echuku who was recently killed by a cyclist over a girlfriend.

“We were guarding the grave according to our traditions when we saw some people walking in the dark towards it. When we followed them they took off and a boy was arrested,” said Peter Okutoi.

The mourners claimed his intentions were suspect and attacked him.

Area assistant chief Gad Olola took the boy to Chamasiri AP Camp but he was referred to Moding Dispensary for treatment.

The family later removed him from the hospital and took him back home but was attacked on the way by the same mob that claimed he wanted to exhume Echuku’s body for witchcraft.
