Man admitted after forceful circumcision

A forceful circumcision incident in Malaba, Busia County nearly turned tragic after the victim bled excessively.

The 38-year-old hotel attendant was ambushed by a mob on Tuesday morning and taken to a nearby river for the initiation in accordance with the Luhya traditions.

He was later frog marched naked along the busy streets of the Malaba border town before being circumcised in public.

The incident brought business to a standstill at the border as shocked residents watched.

The man however started bleeding profusely forcing onlookers to come to his rescue. They took him to Malaba Police Station.

Police rushed him to Teso District hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

Residents condemned the act terming it inhuman and blamed the police for watching without taking any action.

Traditional circumcision season kicked off in various parts of Western Province in August where hundreds of boys underwent the rite of passage that is characterized by elaborate traditional initiation ceremonies.
