Two people, one of them a high school teacher, died after allegedly consuming adulterated alcoholic drinks in Keiyo North District.

Three other victims are admitted to Iten District Hospital while another was referred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Grief-stricken relatives and family members said the victims had taken the brews from different bars in Iten town. Mrs Judy Toroitich whose husband succumbed to the brews was overwhelmed by emotion when she learnt of his death.

She said her husband, Paul Kiyeng, a teacher at Kessup High School, had complained of feeling unwell after he arrived home on Monday night. “He complained of sight impairment but we took it lightly because we thought he was drunk,” she said.

The family only realised all was not well on Tuesday morning when Kiyeng had difficulty breathing and was unable to speak. He was rushed to Iten District Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The other victim, a middle-aged man also succumbed to the effects of the lethal brew. Mr Michael Abdala Ekiru lost his sight and speech. Relatives and friends who took him to hospital watched in despair as nurses conducted first aid on Ekiru.
