GATHONI TRACY MUNENE, 22, is an IT specialist who believes the earliest bird catches the juiciest worm. She spoke to SHIRLEY GENGA

What do you do for a living?

I am a help desk administration officer at XRX Technologies, an information and communication technology specialist that offers smart solutions to technological challenges to individuals and organisations.

What was your childhood dream?

I wanted to be a lawyer — criminal lawyer to be precise — then life happened and I ended up in information technology.

Where did you go to college and what did you study?

I studied at KCA University, Ruaraka. I joined the university in May 2008 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology in December last year.

I have, however, gone back to school to do some certifications and hopefully complete my Masters programme by next year.

Why did you decide to do a Masters so soon?

There is no important time like the present. It is easier to do it now when I am younger and can easily manage my time.

What area of IT did you specialise in?

I chose to specialise in data communication because I am interested in networking and to do that, it is important to know how to handle data over network. Many companies do not know how to handle data. Data management is the future and it is an area I would like to venture into.
