Former Mau Mau freedom fighters have lodged fresh demands with the British Government.
The fighters have demanded the British Government sends experts who will document the colonial war with purposes of establishing a museum.
They also want the British to help establish a monument at the Freedom Corner, where a special placard will be put up with inscriptions of all people who took part in the fight.
Speaking at Kiawara village in Kieni, Nyeri County, the freedom fighters, led by lawyer Paul Muite and other officials, Ndung’u Wa Gicheru (chairman), and Gitu Wa Kahengeri (Secretary General) exuded confidence they will win the case, which they filed against the British Government.
Mr Muite, at the same time, demanded an apology from the British for the atrocities they meted against Kenyans during the fight for freedom.
“We also demand before we discuss anything to do with compensation, they should show us where they interred Field Marshall Dedan Kimathi’s body,” said Muite.
Muite, who was addressing hundreds of the former freedom fighters, said the Government had accepted to fund expenses incurred in course of the trial in a London court.
Medical attention
“We appreciate the Kenyan Government’s decision to take over cost of the trial, and we also urge the State to establish a fund that will help the former freedom fighters seek medical attention,” he said.
Muite was addressing the Mau Mau fighters at the home of Gicheru, who has been bedridden for almost two years.
