A civic leader in Kuria East District has been charged over the abduction of a chief and another man.
Police in Trans Mara West District arrested Chacha Mwita at Mashangwa after being on the run for months.
He was accused of being behind rampant cattle rustling at the border of the two districts.
Trans Mara OCPD Johnston Ipara said the suspect abducted Wangirabose chief Julius Mosingo and Mr Boi Kisiku while armed with an illegal gun.
Mr Ipara said the councillor who has a home in Kenya and another in Tanzania has close links with cattle rustlers. He said he has been evading security officers who have been trailing him.
“The civic leader has been mentioned as one of the masterminds of the cattle raids along Trans Mara-Kuria border. He has taken advantage of the porous border to evade arrest,” he said.
Mwita was later arraigned before Kilgoris Magistrate Bernard Ochieng’ where he was charged with five counts.
In the first count, he was charged with attempting to kill the two complainants while in the second count, he was charged with abduction and intention to kill.
In the third count, he was accused of abducting Boi Kisiku jointly with others not before court with intention of killing him.

In the fourth count he was accused for assaulting Julius Mosingo jointly with others not before court, causing him grievous body harm.
