Ezekiel Kemboi won Kenya the first gold in the London Olympics after clinching the first position in 3000m steeplechase.
Kemboi clocked 8.18.56 and in the third place was Abel Mutai Kiprop bagging bronze.
Kenya’s hope for a 1 2 3 finish dimmed after Brimin Kipruto tripped and fell and did not recover.
Kemboi broke into a dance in celebration after crossing the finishing line.
Kenya still has hopes of bagging more medals after three athletes qualified for the 1500m finals.
Asbel Kiprop, Silas Kiplagat and Nixon Chepsebe eased their way to the finals
In the first heat, Asbel Kiprop took second position behind Algeria's Toufik Makhloufi in the heated race.
Kiprop had an early lead and was deemed to win but the Algerian outpaced him in the final lap.
In another 1500m heat Team Kenya gave another impression when Kiplagat and Chepseba also qualified for 1500m finals.
