Prime Minister Raila Odinga started his tour of Nyandarua County with an admission that freedom fighters have been forgotten.
To this end, Raila said that the remains of former freedom fighter Dedan Kimathi, which have been lying in Kamiti Prison for years, would be exhumed and given a decent burial.
The PM announced that the former home of the freedom fighter in Njabini, Kinangop, would be turned into a museum as a tribute to him.
“I have talked to the Minister for National Heritage and funds for this exercise will be provided in remembrance for the work he did,” he said.
Raila was speaking in Njabini after visiting the home of the widow of the freedom fighter, Mukami Kimathi. “Many are the times freedom fighters have been forgotten and I shall continue to assist this home,” he said.
The PM also visited thehome of the late JM Kariuki where he promised that the Government would construct a mausoleum in honour of the fiery politician whose assassination still remains a mystery.
Raila also announced that the Government would renovate the JM’s house, which he regretted had been abandoned by family members due to insecurity.
He said the home would now be placed under a 24-hour police surveillance. He said Kenyans were still waiting to know who killed JM and why.
The PM announced that Ol Kalau District Hospital will now be known as JM Kariuki Memorial Hospital.
He dismissed any notion that he had a grudge against the Kikuyu.
