Kenya’s David Dunford failed to qualify for the semi finals of the 50m freestyle at the London Olympics on Thursday after clocking 22.72 seconds in Heat 5.
Dunford finished third in his swimming heat but failed to hit the qualifying mark following faster times returned other swimmers.
The cutoff point to the semi finals is 22.27 seconds.
Dunford’s defeat is the second this week after he failed to qualify on Tuesday in the 100m freestyle where he emerged third in his heat.
Dunford, the younger brother of Jason Dunford also representing Kenya in swimming at the Olympics, was in the fifth heat, whose winner was Nobert Trandafir of Romania.
David timed 49.49, a far cry from his 49.20 qualifying time, while the winner stopped the clock at 49.02. Czech Martin Verner was second in 49.49.
Focus is now on the men's 100m butterfly in which David's elder brother Jason will be one of the star attractions.
