The expected visit by President Kibaki to the Olympic Village to chat with the Team Kenya members did not materialise, causing disquiet among the sports people.

Instead, Sports Minister Dr Paul Otuoma, accompanied by assistant minister Kabando wa Kabando, PS James Waweru, Sports Secretary Professor Wilson Langat and Kenyan officials went to the camp with what they described as Goodwill Message to the team.

Legislator Charles Keter was also among those who visited the team.

"How can this happen to us? Does it mean The President has snubbed us? If the Queen can visit the Village and chat with athletes, why cannot our own President, who is in London, not pay us a visit?" a team member asked.

Dr Otuoma read the President's message and handed it over to the Chef De MIssion, Jonathan Koskei. Overall deputy team captain, Olympic 800m champion Pamela Jelimo reacted by a promise that the team was "ready and well-prepared for the battle ahead."
