Missing patient’s body found floating in river

The body of a patient who had gone missing from the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret has been found floating in a river.

The body was found in River Sosiani around Kapsaos area in Uasin Gishu County.

The victim, Duncan Kiplagat, was admitted early last month and disappeared from the hospital on July 26 according to hospital authorities.

“The report we have is that the deceased was admitted on July 12, 2012 and disappeared a few days later,” said OCPD Erastus Muthamia.

Muthamia explained that the man escaped by jumping over the perimeter wall of the hospital.

The OCPD said the reason behind the patient’s escape has not been established.

The family of the deceased are also said to have reported the disappearance to the police immediately they were informed that the patient was no longer in hospital.

The hospital’s Public Relations Officer Selah Plapan told The Standard Wednesday that they did not know the reasons behind his escape.
