A woman has been ordered to pay Sh35,000 fine or serve 12 months in prison for scalding her lover.
Mary Wanjiku Kimani is said to poured porridge and hot water on Constable Titus Kilonzo Kangangi, who is a warder at King’ong’o Prison staff quarters on June 1 last year.
The complainant said an argument had arisen between them over repair of his uniform before the accused allegedly took the drastic action.
“As she was going out, she took the hot porridge and poured it on my head and shoulders and while I was removing the clothes, she also poured the hot water on me,” the warder told Senior Resident Magistrate Joan Wambilyanga.
Medical report
A medical report from Nyeri Provincial Hospital where he was admitted after the incident showed he had suffered severe burns. The magistrate also dismissed the accused’s argument that the warder was scalded accidentally during a fight.
In another case, a matatu driver has been sent to prison for two months for careless driving.
Patrick Nyamu Mathenge admitted to driving carelessly and causing injuries to Nelias Wanja, as she disembarked from the vehicle on April 29, along the Karatina-Kiganjo road.
Chief Inspector Stansleous Mwangi told the court that during the incident, she fell injuring her forehead and fracturing her leg.
