Kenyan guards charged with Venezuelan envoy murder

Two security guards have been arraigned in court in connection with the murder of Venezuelan Ambassador Olga Fonseca Gimenez.

Eliud Kimutai and Bernard Owino appeared before trial magistrate Esther Maina where they were charged with failing to prevent a felony from being committed between July 26 and 27 in Runda Estate.

The two who are security guards with Securex were also charged with failing to use any reasonable means to stop the murder.

“Being security guard you knew that a person intended to commit a felony ( murder). Failed to use any reasonable force to stop the murder,” the charge sheet read.

They denied the two charges and were released on a Sh 100,000 bail and a Kenyan surety of Sh 500,000.

On Monday morning, a Venezuelan embassy official, Dwight Sagaray was arraigned at the high court in connection with the murder of Gimenez.

Sagaray who is a law student at the University of Nairobi appeared before high court Judge Florence Muchemi but charges were not preferred against him. (Read related story)
