Police have arrested two suspects alleged to be selling cat meat at Kongowea in Kisauni district Mombasa County.

The two were arrested after members of the public raised alarm after spotting one of them slaughtering a cat.

According to Kisauni District Criminal Investigation Officer (DCIO) Benedict Kigen, the suspects were arrested a few meters from the Kongowea  market with a dead cat and they suspect that the meat could have been used to make roasted meat biting popularly known as Mishkaki.

The suspect was arrested and had already chopped of the cat’s head.

The suspects were rescued by police officers after the angry crowd gave them a thorough beating.

The police say the suspect confessed confirmed to have been slaughtering cats for quite sometimes but claimed that he has been doing it following instructions from his friend.

“The suspects are being interrogated and are helping police with investigations to establish the whereabouts of another accomplice,” he added.
