Residents in Nandi County are living in fear after lightning struck and killed a man and injured others.

Mr David Bittok, 30, died on the spot after the incident in Kaplesan Village. The victim is reported to have been walking barefoot in the company of a woman, heading to his home with his two donkeys that were loaded with firewood.

According to Sanian Assistant Chief Philemon Chamtany, the woman reported that they were trying to cross a ditch when the man was struck.

Two women were also struck but sustained injuries and were rushed to Kapsabet District Hospital where they received treatment while the body of the deceased was taken to the district hospital mortuary.

Kenya Red Cross Society called on the Government to install lightning arresters in Nandi County to curb increased cases of lightning that has led to loss of lives and property.
