The Education Minister Mutula Kilonza has sparked off a controversial debate by saying school girls be allowed in miniskirts at school.
Mutula’s miniskirt statement came hot on the heels of a school uniform protest that saw students at Rwathia secondary in Murang’a strike.

His statement has caused an uproar among teachers and parents alike who expressed rage at the minister’s statement terming it careless and shocking.
Mutula said that the students should be allowed to wear the miniskirts which would identify them as Kenyan Citizens and not nuns.
“Why are you dressing them like nuns? God has created her allow her to be modern like Mutula. These girls want to become Kenyan citizens not nuns,” he said.
The Rwathia students who went on strike three weeks ago had complained that their new purple skirts were too long, ugly and not meant for their age. They however demanded the shorter and more ‘appealing if not revealing’ uniform.
This is an indication that times has changed and the facebook generation are keen to move with it. In 1960’s short skirts were embraced by the parents of the Y- generation.
