A farmhand allegedly defiled and killed a five-year-old girl before dumping her body in a sugarcane farm.

The naked body was found on Sunday in Bobita village, Gucha South after several hours of search.

The suspect, who hails from the nearby Nyaramba village, reportedly gave the child Sh50 and sent her to buy mandazi from a nearby kiosk.

On her way back, the suspect lured her into the sugarcane farm where he defiled her.

According to Otendo Location chief David Omambia, the deceased’s mother went on a journey leaving her three children in the care of the farmhand. The father who works in Nairobi was also away at the time.

Missing daughter

Upon return at 6pm, she found her first-born daughter missing forcing her to raise alarm.

The farmhand who appeared jittery attempted to flee as the search intensified, but was apprehended by fellow villagers.

The search party found the deceased’s slippers near the sugarcane farm. And 20 metres into the farm, they found a spot where bloodstained leaves had been laid on the ground at the scene of the assault.

Mourning mood

The body was discovered in the farm. The incident threw the village into mourning with residents baying for the suspect’s blood. He was rescued by clan elders who escorted him to Moticho AP post.
