Bishop gets 30 years in jail for defiling teen

A cleric who defiled a student has been sentenced to jail for a period of 30 years by a Meru court.

Bishop Zacheus Mwenda of the Word of Faith Church was found guilty of defiling a student at Kathirone Secondary School on four different occasions at Gitooro area in Imenti North District.

Bishop Mwenda appeared before the Meru Principal Magistrate, B Ochieng, where he faced four counts?of defiling the 17-year-old girl.Mwenda denied all charges before the prosecution called witnesses.

The court was told the suspect lured the girl to the forest, saying he would pray for her. But the law finally caught up with the accused on?August 29, 2010 when forest guards on patrol duty caught him red-handed.

The court was also informed that the?bishop was allegedly introduced to the girl by her math’s teacher.

Before sentencing the accused, Ochieng said the prosecution had proved its case against the bishop.
