World 5,000 and 10,000 metres champion Vivian Cheruiyotâs fiancé Moses Kirui has been taken to court by his ex-wife over maintenance of their three children.
The two had the children from their failed customary marriage before Kirui got engaged to Cheruiyot.
Marathoner Caroline Kwambai alleged that Kirui had not been paying upkeep for their children, contravening an earlier court order that bound him to do so.
On Friday, Kwambaiâs advocate Caleb Obwatinyo requested for a week for a formal application on the issues they want the court to arbitrate.
âThe court had in 2007 ordered him to pay for the upkeep of their children, but to date nothing has been done by the plaintiff,â said Obwatinyo. He said they would do valuation to ascertain the amount that should be brought forward as demand for upkeep.
Obwatinyo also stated that her client is seeking repossession of some rental houses she had built from the proceeds of her participation in various races.
However, Kirui denied going against the court order, adding that he had always paid upkeep for the children.
He noted the case against him was malicious and had been filed to tarnish his name.
âI resigned from the Prisons department after we had our differences since we were working there together. That is when we separated,â Kirui stated.
