Students from Mazeras Boys Secondary School in Kinango District went on strike on Wednesday demanding fumigation of their dormitories claiming they are infested with bed bugs.
The students protested at what they termed as poor hygiene and alleged that the school administration has refused to act on their complaints.
The students claimed that they could not sleep because of the pests.
The District Education Officer Kiberu Kimani confirmed that a section of students walked out of the school following the alleged bedbug invasion.
Kimani confirmed that the students had raised the complaint with the school administration who had promised to fumigate the dormitories but accused them of being impatient.
“The school administration confirmed to me that the boys had complained to them that there were bedbugs in their dormitories which they promised to fumigate over the weekend but the students wet on strike and went home,” said Kimani.
