The US Government has issued a fresh travel advisory to its citizens cautioning them to avoid Kenya citing continued terror threats.
The US Department of State urged those considering travel to Kenya to evaluate their personal security situation in light of recent attacks.
The Barack Obama led Government stated that it continued to receive information of terrorists threat to US and Western citizens in Kenya.
The statement issued by the US Embassy advised Americans that the level of security vary throughout the country.
“The U.S Embassy in Nairobi has limited official U.S. government
travel to Kenya until the security situation improves. The Embassy will continue to monitor the security situation and provide updates,” said the statement.
“Although the pursuit of those responsible for previous
terrorist activities continues, many of those involved remain at large and still operate in the region,” the statement added.
The fresh warning followed an earlier travel advisory issued on
April 4, this year.
The Embassy cited kidnapping of foreigners most of them aid workers and grenade attacks in Nairobi and North Eastern Province as the reason behind the advisory though noted that no US citizen has been injured or kidnapped in the incidents.
The travel advisory issued by US in April sparked angry reactions from leaders with some terming it as economic sabotage as tourism is one of Kenya’s major income earner.
